Governor Threatens to VETO Legislation if Senate/Assembly Override Budget VETO
September 16, 2008
Earlier today Governor Schwarzenegger has indicated that he will VETO the 2008/2009 FY Budget enacted overnight. Governor Schwarzenegger has also announced that should the Legislature override his veto, which they are expected to do, that he will given an even closer examination to the over 800 bills to be sent him for signature over the next fourteen days. The Governor is quoted as saying that he will likely "veto hundreds of bills." Also included in his comments included his belief that should the Legislature override his veto, that "massive cuts or major tax increases will be required next year to balance the budget."
It should be noted budget trailer bill language, specifically AB 1389 included significant increases to workers' compensation user funding assessments as well as the funding of a special CalOSHA account with employer workers' compensation dollars. CCWC is still evaluating this language and the fee impacts to our members.
